Search: Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

Whenever I used to think of large mirrors, I would remember my grandma's not-so-appealing mirrored closet doors. Gratefully, now-a-days mirrors have graduated to official art status! Floor mirrors and large wall mirrors are also becoming so popular that many are framing and DIY'ing their own. I love having mirrors in our home.

Here are some reasons why a mirror can be a great investment for a minimalist:

  • Common use product (viewing oneself)
  • Wall art and focal point of a room using minimal space while making a big statement
  • Adds a sense of wealth and class to the space
  • Can emphasize the height or width of a room
  • Reflects light, bringing more light into the space so as to appear lighter
  • Adds personality and compliments the room's decor style in the size, frame style, colors, etc
  • Reflects the other side of the space so as to make the space appear larger
  • Can be positioned to reflect a window wherein the window's view is projected to the other side which is especially neat when the window has a scenic view

Check out these ideas below!

Not only does this mirror use almost the entire wall space, its frame actually dictates the style of the room!

This mirror is not only functional, but serves as an art piece and adds some elegance to the space.

Art piece!

Two mirrors - double the light and double the space!

Although there is more in this room than I feel there should be (leave the fruit only, or one potted plant and remove the rest) - I love the shout this mirror gives the space. The color warms the room up too!

This mirror lengthens the room- perfectly positioned!

This mirror is working on many levels - it adds height, light, elegance, wealth and art to the space. Love it!

You almost can't tell which one is the mirror! The placement of this mirror brings in the scenery, adds extra light and the feeling of more space. If the mirror was double in size I think it would have a greater effect.

Hope you enjoyed! Stay tuned for more ideas to create a cozy yet minimalistic space for you and your loved ones.

Happy minimizing!

Search: Walls That Talk

Large wall art is not just for collectors anymore! When it comes to minimalistic decor - extra large wall art can be your best friend. Not only can it show off your personality, but it can take the place of 20 nick-nacks in a fraction of the space and decrease clutter in a room.

Large wall art is so popular in fact, many are DIY'ing their own! If you've got a crafty hand and really want to save money, framing wallpaper or creating your own wall piece out of recycled materials  are some cheap and fun ways to add your personality to a space.

Check out these ideas below!

I would remove the table set up - keep a single vase of flowers if you like - but I understand this may have been taken before a dinner party occurred or more obviously for the magazine

The elegance and personality achieved in this space through the simplistic and minimal decor is absolutely perfect to me!

Above is another example of framed wallpaper - this is 'watercolor wallpaper'

Heres a room for all you industrial decor lovers out there. I love this though, because the bear softens the room up

The room above has a little more nick-nacks than I would prefer, but I love the wall photo - its precious!

Check out the next post about how large mirrors can enhance your living space.

Enjoy!

Search: Minimal Living Room Ideas

As it turns out, the terms cozy and simple 99.9% of the time apply to bedrooms more than to any other room in the house. I guess the term cozy minimalism just hasn't translated on the living room front yet. I keep asking myself why this is so... surely many others out there feel as I do. I am surprised there aren't better pictures for reference...

Well.. Today I found a few gems. In most of the pictures there are still a few things I would remove. I know I said my style is more traditional decor, I do have a sweet spot for more contemporary things as well. And, on rare occasion love the extreme modern look.

There is this odd connection with "white walls", "white couches" and "minimalism". Its annoying me! Color makes all the difference in a space and white does not automatically mean its "minimalistic" or "clean."

For now though, this is what I found :)

Cover old couches with white throws, small but simple cozy space

Faux Firs add all the warmth!

So well designed...The colors give it coziness and life and the items still provide what a family would need in the living room.

Practical colorful space!

The rock brings a lot of warmth into this space. I would love to get cozy on that couch! One of my favorites.

Here we are with the whites and creams again... but I love the use of this space. Definitally my idea of cozy minimalism. Could have the same effect with warmer colors too :)

So happy to see a wall with COLOR! Loving this space. Small, personal but simple.

I promise it wont take so long to write next time - there is much to tell so see you soon!

We wish you a very Merry Chirstmas from our family to yours!

Search: Cozy Simple Bedrooms

It turns out, googling (or pinteresting!) 'cozy simple' and 'cozy simple decor' gets you where you want to be for more ideas on cozy minimalism! I guess 'cozy' and 'minimalism' havent quite welded together yet... but I'm finding all kinds of jems today :) Below are just a few of my favorites and they generally fit into my idea of keeping the home minimalisic but cozy. As you can see, it has much more to do with colors and textures than the number of things, and letting spaces breathe. Again, I prefer more traditional/contemporary furnishings than modern ones.

The only thing I would change about this space is x the floor lamp (since there is already two on each side of the bed) and one of the chairs (unless...its you and your love's thing to sit and have tea in which case - keep it cause thats part of who you are in everyday life )

I love this room. In fact, I wish I could find those branches - I see them everywhere. Where in the world do you get stuff like that? Let me know! :)

Thats pretty sweet. Probably my favorite.

These color choices are so in right now. That quilt is darling. I wish I could decorate my house like this, but I am just at a loss when it comes to being that bold.

I love how the boards on the wall give the room dimension and character without invading the space. I would love to do something like that once we have our own home, but thats also because I hope one day we can live in a log cabin in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range ;)

Also, I discovered this fantastic blog post which provides a lovely list of how to add cozyness to your home without adding more things. Maybe this is old news and I'm just now jumping on the common sense train but I am loving all of this fabulous inspiration! I hope you do too :)

Stay tuned for more cozy minimalist decor ideas.

Enjoy!
